The Sensory Garden

- What is this?

A Garden to please all the senses.

Sight, touch, taste, scent and sound should combine to surround us with pleasure.

Like all gardens, sensory gardens are for everyone but they are especially important for the elderly, the stressed and those with sensory deprivations.

Why not create your own?

Make a garden that looks and feels good all the year round, with smooth shiny leaves and soft velvety petals to touch. Use textures underfoot to stimulate your feet.

Walk on prostrate herbs that bring back memories of warm summer days by the Mediterranean. Double the pleasure with splashing water and scented shade.

You may need some help. Probably not too much because half the fun comes from imagining and experimenting.

Here's some of my favourite touchy, scenty, tinkly choices

Lamb's ears -
Velvety and prostrate.
Camomile lawn -
Scented and soft underfoot.
Wind chimes -
Delicate sound of bells.
Waterfall -
Soft, cooling sound of water.
Lemon verbena -
Sharp citrus scent.
Bowles golden grass -
Windblown colour with rustling sound.
Alpine strawberries -
Fruity taste.
Textured paths and surfaces -
Revitalizing toes.
Wild ferns -
Soft green woodland scent.
Thymes -
Aromatic leaves and pink flowers.

What do you think of them?

There are lots more.
